heaven is a lake house in vermont

one of my absolute favorite places on earth is my in-laws tiny house on a lake in vermont. maybe it’s because i grew up in california and had plenty of access to beaches, but oceans don’t excite me nearly as much as a day by a lake.
this year for the 4th of july weekend, we brought along a crew consisting of my mom, my brother, his girlfriend and their 4-month old puppy. (do i have cool in-laws, or what? they didn’t even bat an eyelash about having a semi-housebroken puppy joining the party at the last second). we all piled into the two bedrooms and enjoyed 3 days of perfect weather, delicious food and all manner of water sports (at 32 weeks pregnant, i consider floating in the water a sport…)
as i try not to die in the humidity and heat of new york city, i am letting my mind drift back to…

banjo serenades on the porch…

traditional birthday dirt cake (yes, i am 29 years old and eat a cake made of oreos and cool whip every year. so what?)

watching puppies swim for the first time…

extra time with my mama…

baby’s first boat ride…

and maple creemees! (possibly the greatest dessert ever created).
(major thanks to my brother’s girlfriend for being the kind of person who makes you pull over on the side of the road so that she can take a picture of something you haven’t even noticed. perhaps a little annoying at the time, but so, so, so worth it to end up with the kind of pictures she takes!)
